Sarah is a Partner in the London office of Johnson Law Group and a leading specialist in legal costs and litigation funding. She has advised on costs in many of the leading group litigations of the last decade and has over 15 years’ experience advising on complex, high value disputes, including costs issues arising in multi-jurisdictional litigation.
Sarah originally qualified as a Barrister and is now practising as a Solicitor. She forged her career as a costs and civil litigation advocate, regularly appearing in the High Court and the Senior Courts Costs Office, before focusing her practice on the application of costs law within large scale litigation, group actions and multi-party disputes.
Since 2010, Sarah has garnered extensive experience advising on complex contentious and non-contentious costs issues from the perspective of paying parties, receiving parties, and in relation to solicitor and own-client costs. Her practice spans the full spectrum of costs and dispute resolution work, including summary and detailed assessment, costs management and budgeting, payments on account of costs, retainers, and costs mediation. She also advises extensively on litigation funding, ATE insurance, funding information disclosure, and security for costs.
Sarah has played a leading role in the costs strategy and management of some of the most significant group actions in England and Wales, including the VW NOx Emissions Group Litigation and the Pan-NOx Emissions Litigation. Her experience includes advising on complex multi-party cost structures, cost-sharing agreements, and agency arrangements.
Her practice also includes medical product liability costs, including the Essure Group Litigation and Transvaginal Mesh Litigation, as well as costs arising from international environmental litigation such as the Município de Mariana Litigation. In addition to civil litigation, Sarah has advised on inquiry costs, including work on the Manchester Arena Bombing Inquiry and the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Alongside her technical practice, Sarah has held leadership and practice development roles, contributing to the growth, structure, and strategic direction of costs practices within the firms in which she has worked.
